Description

This article gives the reason for the "Virtual Network function by the third party does not exist" error to be output on NFX250-S2 devices and points to the appropriate configuration that is required to prevent this error.

Symptoms

While attempting to spin up a vCSR, the "Virtual Network function by the third party does not exist" error is output and the vCSR VNF is unable to spin up successfully.

Solution

In this case, the hugepages value was set to 5 (1 GB each) only, which does not allow enough memory to be allocated for the VNF. When the number of hugepages was increased and the device rebooted, the vCSR VNF was able to spin up successfully.

Huge Pages:
------------
Total 1GiB Huge Pages: 5 <<<<<<< Changed this to required value (23 in this case)
Free 1GiB Huge Pages: 1
Configured 1GiB Huge Pages: 0
Total 2MiB Huge Pages: 156
Free 2MiB Huge Pages: 28

It is a requirement that correct hugepage memory should be allocated for VNFs, while leaving enough for the NFX device. For information about allocating memory for NFX250-S1 and NFX250-S2, refer to KB32339 - [NFX] Recommendations for allocating hugepages on NFX250 platform [juniper.net] .
