Description

19.1R1 Release Notes specifies "Reoptimized architecture support (NFX250 NextGen).  However, unable to upgrade to that code.

Symptoms

  • Attempting to upgrade using upgrade file jinstall-host-nfx-3-x86-64-19.1R1.6-secure.tgz

  • Upgrade is done via "request system software add ..." command


The following errors occur when attempting to do a software upgrade from nfx-2:

root@jdm> ... add /var/tmp/jinstall-host-nfx-3-x86-64-19.1R1.6-secure.tgz    

System software upgrade in progress, please wait...

Pushing Junos image package to the host...

Error: Current disk layout is not upgrade compatible to package provided

Error: installation script exited with status 1

Error: Rolling back the staged upgrade!!

upgrade_platform: Requested rollback of a staged upgrade..

upgrade_platform: /boot/backup not found

Error: Installation failed, upgrade rolled back!!!

Solution

To install NFX250 NextGen JUNOS code, you cannot upgrade via 'request system software add' .  This will require doing a USB Install, using the install media:

install-media-host-usb-nfx-3-x86-64-19.1R1.6-secure.img
