The new installation menu is not clear which option should be chosen for virtual machines.  During installation for virtual machines, the user is presented with a menu to install 3 things:

1. Appliance Install (purchased as an appliance)
2. Software Install (hardware was purchased separately)
3. High Availability Appliance

The installation incorrectly allows you to install virtual machines whether you choose Appliance or Software. This presents a uniformity problem in the web UI where the appliance ID is accurately shown if Appliance is correctly chosen, but 'software' is shown if Software is incorrectly chosen from the menu, which is also reflected in the database tables. There may also be other unknown, unintended consequences.

For virtual machines, the appliance ID shown should be displayed in the format of xx99 when Appliance is correctly chosen during installation. Please see the following KB for a complete list of appliance IDs: KB14832 - [STRM] Appliance Name and Appliance ID Number Description List. [juniper.net]

• Appliance Install (purchased as an appliance) : Should be chosen if the user has purchased JSA appliances or wants to install virtual machines

• Software Install (hardware was purchased separately) : Should be chosen if the user has provided their own hardware to install on. Currently, this option is only supported  in 7.3.1 patch 9 or higher and only for Data Node installations.  All other implementation choices should be an Appliance installation.

This issue will be fixed in future versions of code.

When installing virtual machines, choose the first option: Appliance Install (purchased as an appliance)
