Description

Optical inline amplifiers (ILA) can be managed over the optical supervisory channel (OSC) of the PTX3000 integrated photonic line card (IPLC). The OSC status for both sides [a] and [b] of an ILA is shown as disable in some situations. There are two OSCs (a and b) on an optical ILA. However, the actual OSC power levels are normal. The OSC is functioning normally, and the ILA operation itself is normal.

This article explains that the issue is cosmetic and suggests a way to correct it.

 

Symptoms

In the topology below, there are four ILAs (InLine Amplifier) installed in between two PTX3000 routers.

ILA1/2/4 are showing 'OSC a/b Output enable ' correctly, but only ILA3 is showing 'OSC a/b Output disable '.

Solution

This issue is caused by the reboot soft operation command on the ILA.

This cosmetic issue can be fixed by setting ILA3's ila mode to manual , and reverting it to auto . The oscEnable status is changed from Disabled to Enabled . 

The default ILA mode is Auto . Changing ILA mode does not have any traffic impact.
