This article explains why a virtual network function (VNF) does not start over after an NFX250 device is rebooted following sudden loss in power supply, and suggests a workaround to resolve the issue.

When an NFX device encounters sudden loss in power supply, and is rebooted after supply is restored, VNF does not start over. The following syslog message is logged in the /var/log/syslog file:

"jdmd: [jdmd_vnf_cleanup_if_defined_in_libvirt_db] Failed to undefine vnf <VNF name>. /var/third-party/<VNF name>_init.xml parse failure"

The init.xml file becomes corrupt when there is unexpected power outage, causing the VNF to fail to spin up.

This issue should be addressed in Junos OS release 18.4, 18.3R1, 18.2R2, 18.1R3, and 15.1X53-D495. See PR1373997: init.xml file is corrupt after power outage .

Meanwhile, the workaround is to delete the VNF from Juniper Device Manager (JDM), and then re-create it.
