This article summarizes the details of the "Unknown MPLS LSP Tunnel Destination" message that is displayed by the Network Model Audit report on the dashboard of the NorthStar Web GUI, and provides steps to resolve the same.
The Network Model Audit report displays the "Unknown MPLS LSP Tunnel Destination" message on the dashboard of the NorthStar Web GUI when an LSP is created and the destination IP address (Node Z) is unknown to NorthStar.
In addition, node information is not available for the PCC Controlled/Delegated LSP on the Topology > Tunnel tab.
When a label-switched path (LSP) is created by using a secondary/tertiary loopback address as the MPLS-TE destination address (Node Z), the LSP is listed as Unknown in the Network Model Audit > Tunnel Destination field. Further, node information is not populated on the Topology > Tunnel tab.
This is because, by default, the NorthStar application learns only the default IPV4 router ID address (primary loopback address), which is then populated in the node information column. It is not aware of any secondary/tertiary loopback addresses, unless these addresses are made known to the application by adding them to the node information.
To make the secondary/tertiary loopback addresses for the destination node (Node Z) known to the NorthStar application, the addresses need to be added to the node information.
On the Topology > Node tab, select the relevant node and click Modify.
Click the Add button to add new addresses, and then add the additional addresses along with a description tag.
After adding the respective addresses, refresh the web page, and then check the dashboard. Network Model Audit > Tunnel Destination should indicate status as Passed.
The Node Z (destination IP address) information is now populated on the Topology > Tunnel tab.
Similarly, if a secondary/tertiary loopback address is used for the source node (Node A), Node A information will not be populated on the Topology > Tunnel tab. For Node A information to be populated, add the secondary/tertiary loopback addresses to the node information as mentioned in Steps 1 and 2.
Refresh the web page for the changes to be reflected immediately. The Topology > Tunnel tab will now have the node information for the Tunnel.
Note
Resetting the network model will delete any user-defined data in the database that is related to the network model. Consequently, the additional addresses that were configured in the node information will be deleted when the "reset network model" operation is performed. The addresses will, therefore, have to be added again.
