Description

This article discusses the behavior of vSRX interfaces when assigned to single-root I/O virtualization (SR- IOV) virtual functions (VF).

Symptoms

 SR-IOV VF can be assigned to vSRX. The vSRX interfaces that use SR-IOV VF did not go down when SR-IOV physical functions (PF) or host NIC went down.

Solution

This is due to the data plane development kit (DPDK) used on vSRX.

DPDK have link level status detecting API, and this API is not implemented for SR-IOV PF.  When the physical interface is up, DPDK API cannot detect it is up. This is the same when the physical interface is down; DPDK API cannot detect it is down.

Hence, when SR-IOV VF is used, the corresponding vSRX VM GE-*/*/* is designed to always be UP.

This behavior is by design for vSRX.
