Description

Prior to SRX 15.1X49-D70, vSRX deployment with 2 vCPU and 4GB RAM was supported.

For SRX 15.1X49-D70 and higher, scaling up of vSRX flavor is supported. The following are the multicore vSRX flavors available for deployment:

Flavor JCP vCPUs Data Plane vCPUs vRAM
Small 1 1 4G
Medium 1 4 8G

For more information, refer to vSRX Scale Up Flavors in Chapter 1 of the vSRX Admin Guide for VMware .

This article provides some of the guidelines for deploying or upgrading to Multicore vSRX Flavor.

Solution

Observations and Recommendations:

  1. If using Multicore vSRX flavors, it is recommended to pin vCPUs to dedicated physical CPU cores for performance enhancement.
  2. Oversubscription of underlying resources must be avoided.
  3. For srxpfe CPU utilization, when monitored from 'Wind River Linux Kernel' using 'top' command will show 95-100% CPU utilization even though vSRX resource utilization is low. This is by design.

Below is a sample output to illustrate the difference between Multicore vSRX and Singlecore vSRX:

On Multicore vSRX:

On Singlecore vSRX:

Note: On both cases, 1 vCPU is used by JCP.
