In the current implementation, only the Trio chipset ASIC supports the full IPv6 ICMP redirect feature.
As of Junos OS Release 12.2, ICMP redirect messages for the IPv6 family are enabled by default for devices using line cards with the Junos Trio chipset.
This feature checks all IPv6 packets that enter and exit on the interface and provides ICMP redirect messages to notify hosts when a better route is available for a particular destination.
All redirects can be disabled by using the set system no-redirects command. This KB article is intended to clarify the specification of DPC (I-Chip) and MPC (Trio) in regard to ICMPv6 redirect.
set system no-redirects
Since the current I-Chip ucode has some limitations, it supports IPv6 ICMP redirect only for IPv4 compatible addresses, while Trio fully supports IPv6 ICMP redirect.
