This article describes the issue of the internet speed being slow, even though the ISP link is 1Gb.
A customer was not receiving the full internet speed in the LAN side network. The customer was testing the connection via speedtest.net and the speed received was up to 92Mbps, even though the ISP link is 1Gb.
Scenario :
INTERNET<------1GB link <SRX> ------------- <EX-switch> ---------|LAN
Customer was using CAT-5 cable on LAN side which can support speed up to 100 mbps only.
In such scenarios, before checking anything on the SRX or EX device ,check the type of the physical cable on the LAN side; if it is CAT-5, then it will support speeds only up to 100Mbps. The cable must be CAT-5 e or CAT-6.
After changing the cable from CAT-5 to CAT-6 on the LAN side, the speed being received was up to 900 Mbps.
