Description

Is ethernet switching and configuration of the switching fabric link on SRX-GP-2XE-SFPP-TX ( 2-port 10GbE SFP+ / 10GbE Base-T Copper XPIM ) supported?

Symptoms

This article provides information about the support extended for ethernet switching and switching fabric link (swfab) on SRX-GP-2XE-SFPP-TX (2-port 10GbE SFP+ / 10GbE Base-T Copper XPIM).

Solution

Ethernet switching is not supported on SRX-GP-2XE-SFPP-TX cards. This implies that any configuration, which requires that family ethernet-switching be configured, is not supported on these interfaces. For example, configuring the switching fabric interface (swfab).

Ethernet-switching in chassis cluster is supported on SRX from 11.1. To ensure that Layer 2 switching works seamlessly across chassis cluster nodes, a dedicated physical link to connect the nodes is required. This type of link is termed as a switching fabric interface (swfab). The configuration of swfab on SRX-GP-2XE-SFPP-TX will not work and is not supported. If it is configured on the interfaces of XPIM, you will see the ethernet switching status as down:

root@srx> show chassis cluster ethernet-switching interfaces
swfab0:

    Name Status
    xe-3/0/1 up
swfab1:

    Name Status
    xe-12/0/1 up

root@srx> show chassis cluster ethernet-switching status
Cluster ID: 2
Node Priority Status Preempt Manual failover

Redundancy group: 0 , Failover count: 0
    node0 1 primary no no
    node1 1 secondary no no

Ethernet switching status:
Probe state is DOWN. Both nodes are in separate ethernet switching domain(s).

root@srx> show chassis cluster ethernet-switching statistics

Switch fabric link statistics:
    Probe state : DOWN
    Probes sent: 0
    Probes received: 0
    Probe recv errors: 0
    Probe send errors: 0
