Description

This article provides information about the fru_is_present: out of range slot 0 for log message, which is generated after an upgrade to Junos version 10.4R9.2.

Symptoms

In chassisd log file, these log messages are continuously generated every 5 seconds:

Mar 12 14:44:44 fru_is_present: out of range slot 1 for
Mar 12 14:44:49 fru_is_present: out of range slot 1 for
Mar 12 14:44:54 fru_is_present: out of range slot 1 for
Mar 12 14:44:59 fru_is_present: out of range slot 1 for
Mar 12 14:45:04 fru_is_present: out of range slot 1 for
Mar 12 14:45:09 fru_is_present: out of range slot 1 for


Note: the slot number may be different for your environment.

Solution


The above log message is triggered by SNMP polling. It is displayed in chassisd logs for all the routers, for which the CIP fru is not present. This log is superficial in nature and has no impact on production.

To avoid this issue, update to the following Junos release:

  • 10.4R10 onwards (fixed by PR746923)
  • 11.4R10 onwards (fixed by PR926486)
  • 12.1X44-D25 onwards (fixed by PR889776)
