Description

This article provides information about the boot sequence of SRX-series devices.

Solution

SRX devices attempt to boot from the storage media listed by the below order.

SRX branch devices (SX1xx, SRX2xx, SRX3xx, SRX550, SRX3xx)

  • Internal NAND flash (default; always present)
  • USB storage key (alternate)
Note : The Internal NAND flash boot device can be further divided into primary and backup partitions, if the SRX branch device has been configured with dual root partitioning (dual root partitioning is available, starting with Junos 10.0R1). If there is an issue with booting from the primary partition, the SRX branch device will boot from the backup partition. For more information, refer to the following articles:

SRX650 :
  • Internal Compact Flash card (default; always present)
  • External Compact Flash card (alternate)
  • USB storage key (alternate)
Note : Compact Flash boot devices can be further divided into primary and backup partitions, if the SRX650 device has been configured with dual root partitioning (dual root partitioning is available, starting with Junos 10.0R1). If there is an issue with booting from the primary partition, the SRX branch device will boot from the backup partition. For more information, refer to the following articles:

To temporarily change the boot sequence order, use the following command, when rebooting the device:
request system reboot media ...
