This article provides information about the meaning of usp_ipc_server_send: failed to send message via ipc pipe log messages.
At times the following logs are found in a syslog messages file:
Feb 12 03:24:01 fw1 usp_ipc_server_send: failed to send message via ipc pipe Feb 12 03:24:01 fw1 usp_ipc_server_msg_handler: failed to send eom message
These error messages are informational in nature and are generated when the internal connection between the RE (routing engine) and PFE (packet forwarding engine) is closed, when trying to send data from the PFE to the RE. Here, one end closes the connection and the other end is still trying to listen to it. This drop in the connection between the RE and PFE can be due to various reasons, which may or may not affect the performance. These messages alone cannot provide much Information about the reasons behind the disconnection between RE and PFE. An example of an instance, in which this issue appears, is when you run the show security flow session | no-more command and terminate the output by typing ctrl+c . When the show security flow session command is issued, PFE provides the session information to the RE, which is displayed on the CLI and when this process is aborted, it closes the connection between the RE and PFE; which results in these messages.
