Description

When connecting an Avaya G700 Media Gateway (MG) to an EX Switch, the G700 Media Gateway should be assigned the same VLAN as the VLAN to which the Ethernet ports are connected. By default the G700 uses a native vlan id of 1.

Symptoms

When connecting an Avaya G700 Media Gateway to an EX Switch the link comes up but traffic does not pass.

Solution

By default the Avaya G700 is configured with a native VLAN-ID of 1.  The EX Switch native vlan-id would have to be configured with this same vlan in order to work properly.



Configure the EX Switch to match the G700 VLAN (or vice versa)
In order to enable the communication between the G700 Media Gateway and the EX Switch the user should do one of the following:
  1. Remove the default VLAN configuration
  2. Configure the VLAN tag membership with VID=1 on the Media Gateway (MGW) port on the EX Switch

EX Switch Native Vlan Configuration:

G700 Media Gateway
Virtual Local Area Network:  A defined network segment that allows users on that segment to have priority services in sharing information with each other.
If the network is not using VLANs, the VLAN should be 1. Otherwise, use the VLAN numbers indicated in your planning forms. The Avaya G700 Media Gateway should be assigned the same VLAN as the VLAN to which the Ethernet ports are connected. The Avaya P330 Stack Processor might or might not be assigned to the customer's network management VLAN.
