Description

This article describes the issue of WLAN AP or VPN licenses not being shown, in the output of 'show system license', on SRX210he and SRX240-DC.

Symptoms

By default, SRX210 and SRX240DC should have 2 WLAN AP and 2 Dynamic VPN user licenses.  However, when displaying the licenses via show system license , they are not displayed.

On SRX210 (which works fine with WLAN):

JUNOS 11.1S4.1 built 2011-08-26 06:36:22 UTC
srx210> show version
Hostname: srx210
Model: srx210h-poe
JUNOS Software Release [11.1S4.1]

srx210e> show system license
License usage:
                                 Licenses Licenses Licenses Expiry
  Feature name used installed needed
  dynamic-vpn 0 2 0 permanent

Licenses installed: none

On SRX210E (which is missing the WLAN license and WLAN does not work):
srx210e> show version
Hostname: srx210he
Model: srx210he-poe
JUNOS Software Release [11.1S4.1]

srx210e> show system license
License usage: none

Licenses installed: none

Solution

This is a bug specific to the new hardware on SRX210e and on the DC version of SRX240-DC.  This occurs with Junos 11.1R1 to 11.1R4 (which also includes 11.1S4), and 11.2R1. WLAN and Dynamic VPN will not function without the licenses.  WLAN and Dynamic VPN will work, if you load a license externally generated via Customer Care.

The resolution is to upgrade to either 11.1R5 or later and 11.2R2 or later; Junos 11.4R1 is not affected by this.
