Description

This article describes the issue of being unable to find the kickstart file, when re-imaging the Junos Space Appliance (JA1500) via an USB stick.

Symptoms

When re-imaging the Junos Space appliance via USB stick, the installation may be interrupted at times, with the following error message:

Unable to download kickstart file . Please modify the kickstart parameter below or press Cancel to proceed as an interactive installation linux ks=hd:sdb1:/ks.cfg

Solution

The following workarounds can be tried:

  • Ignore the error and press the Enter key to select the OK option, and the kickstart process will continue.

Or

  • Rewrite the entire file path location of the kickstart file and pres the Enter key to select the OK option.

For example, the path location is:

    linux ks=hd:sdb1:/ks.cfg

After manually specifying the above kickstart file, Anaconda ( it is the installer for Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS) fetches the correct file and the kickstart process normally continues.
          Or

  •  Remove/reinsert the USB stick and try again .
          Or
  • Reboot the appliance and try again .
Note : After trying all  the workarounds and if the error still persists, contact JTAC support.
