This article describes the issue of the VCCPD daemon still existing in fixed configuration switches.

Symptoms

  • The VCCPD daemon is responsible for all virtual chassis protocol related activities.
  • But, customers may still see the same process in fixed configuration EX switches; which do not support virtual chassis technology, such as EX2200, EX3200 or a EX4500 in intraconnect mode.

Solution


There are two facts regarding the existence of VCCPD in fixed configuration switches, such as EX2200, EX3200 or a EX4500 in intraconnect mode:

  • Juniper has a common software model and code for all Junos devices.

    Junos for EX series also has these features, for all EX3200/EX4200/EX4500/EX8200 family of products. This necessitates the running of VCCPD across all these product lines; even if the EX switch is not running as part of a virtual chassis or the model does not support virtual chassis.
  • VCCPD is necessary to program the routes between the 2 PFEs, inside of a EX switch.
