MX80 shows errors when trying to use a jinstall package.
When performing a system software update on a MX80 it can show an error message indicating there is an issue with the file. Example: ERROR: Package jbundle is not compatible - i386 vs POWERPC ERROR: validate-config: jbundle/+REQUIRE fails WARNING: Current configuration not compatible with /var/tmp/jinstall-11.1R1.14-domestic-signed.tgz
ERROR: Package jbundle is not compatible - i386 vs POWERPC ERROR: validate-config: jbundle/+REQUIRE fails WARNING: Current configuration not compatible with /var/tmp/jinstall-11.1R1.14-domestic-signed.tgz
This is caused by the different chipset used exclusively for the MX80 chassis. It uses Power PC chipset instead of Intel based chipsets of the other routers.
There is a special jinstall package created specifically for the MX80 hardware to work on the PowerPC platform. It has the following naming scheme that includes the -ppc indicating it is for PowerPC platform and is available under software downloads: http://www.juniper.net/support/downloads/?p=mx80#sw Example: jinstall- ppc -11.1R6.4-domestic-signed.tgz (note the ppc) This install package will work only on the MX80 platform and is not designed for use on any other platforms.
jinstall- ppc -11.1R6.4-domestic-signed.tgz
(note the ppc)
