Certain Routing Engines are unable install newer versions of Junos on their compact flash drives.
This issue is due to newer versions of Junos having increased in size, from when the routing engines were released.
When upgrading Junos 9.3 or later, it will require an RE with at least 512MB of compact flash space. Currently, the newest release, which is 11.2, will still install on a 512MB flash; even though the size of the install package is close to 400MB. Future releases may increase the size of the install package even more, which will then require 1GB flash. To see what size of flash you have, run the following command via the Junos CLI:
