This article provides information about the difference between the 'Update Device Attack Database' and 'Update NSM Attack Database' options in NSM.

Symptoms

There are two options to update the attack database in the NSM GUI:

  • Under the Devices drop-down list in Deep Inspection/IDP:
    Device > Deep Inspection/IDP > Update Device Attack Database
  • Under the Tools drop-down list:
    Tools > View / Update NSM Attack Database
What is the key difference between these two options?

Solution

The first option- Devices > Deep Inspection/IDP > Update Device Attack Database , is used to update the devices with the attack DB that is available and present on the NSM server.

The second option- Tools > View / Update NSM Attack Database, is used to update the NSM server with the latest Attack DB.
