Symptoms

when a link state changes, on MPC-3D-16XGE-SFPP 750-028467 REV22 and below, excessive interrupts may be generated by the physical interface (PHY). This can cause various problems, including high CPU usage and/or unexpected reset of the MPC. The following message might be logged:

fpc10 MQchip 0 XE 0 Throttle: Last 70 seconds have seen interrupt throttling at least once per second


Solution

Juniper Networks has updated the PHY firmware to avoid these issues. Customers with affected products are encouraged to upgrade their version of Junos and the PHY firmware. Contact JTAC to check the version of Junos and have the firmware upgraded through remote access.
