Description

This article describes the behavior demonstrated by Pulse Client 2.0r2 when connecting to file shares or mapping to shared drives.

 

Symptoms

Pulse Client 2.0r2 is being used to connect to a SRX with the Dynamic VPN feature. 

  • When the Pulse client attempts to open a file on a shared resource, i.e. Start > Run > \\x.x.x.x\, it disconnects.

  • The Pulse client always disconnects and never allows users to connect to the shared resource.

 

Solution

This issue is easier to identify, when 0/0 protected resource is configured on the SRX.

The Pulse remote access (DVPN), after it starts, creates and associates the IPSec tunnel with the JNPR Virtual Adapter. Windows, during file sharing, first sends the broadcast NBNS (NetBIOS name service) to all the interfaces. These broadcast packets trigger the old Pulse client to terminate the existing tunnel and start a new tunnel negotiation.

This issue is fixed in Pulse 2.0r3 or higher, by ignoring the broadcast packets sent to all the interfaces. Now NetBIOS broadcasts are sent only to the JNPR Virtual Adapter.
