This article describes how to change a Junos device root password via NSM.

How do I change a Junos device root administrator password using NSM?

Solution

To change a Junos device root password via NSM, go to:

  1. Edit the Device 
  2. Select the Configuration tab
  3. Expand System 
  4. Click Root-Authentication
  5. Enter the "Plain Text Password Value" in the text box provided .

Important Note :

If this root administrator is used for adding the Junos device on NSM, the root-authentication password should be changed also under Info tab after editing the device.

NSM will use the root password under Info tab to authenticate with the Junos device.

If the root password is not changed under Info tab, the device will not connect back to NSM after the existing session is broken (for example - DevSvr restart)

You can see the following errors in the /var/netscreen/DevSvr/errorLog/deviceDaemon.0 (if the root password under Info tab is left unchanged)

[Error] 'failed on user auth request'
