Description

The EX8200-48T-ES, EX8200-48F-ES and the EX8208-8X-ES extra-scale line cards are optimized for large-scale deployments such as large campuses, global data centers, cloud-based applications, and internet peering environments. The ES cards provide twice the Forwarding Information Base (FIB) table capacity of the non ES cards, enabling them to support multiple copies of complete internet routing tables. Designed for internet facing environments and featuring support for virtual routing and forwarding (VRF), the ES cards are otherwise identical to the non-ES versions and are available in both copper (EX8200-48T-ES) and fiber (EX8200-8XS-ES and EX8200-48F-ES) versions.

Symptoms

What must be considered when installing an ES line card into an 8200 chassis?

Solution

  • ES line cards are supported in Junos 11.1 and above.  The system will not be able to detect the line card on anything lower.
  • We recommend that you do not install extra-scale line card models and non-extra-scale models in the same switch. If you install non-extra-scale line cards in a switch that has extra-scale models installed, the IPv4 and IPv6 route table sizes default to those of the standard model and you will not get the benefit of the increased table size of the extra-scale model.
