Description

This article describes the hardware needed to support IPsec tunneling on the M, MX, and T routers.

Symptoms

Provides information on support for IPsec tunneling on the M/MX/T routers.

Solution

Support for IPsec tunnels on the M, MX, and T routers is dependent on having the correct PIC or DPC installed on your router:

M Series routers require one of these PICs to support IPsec:

  • Multiservices PIC (any version*)
  • Adaptive Services II PIC
  • Adaptive Services Module (built-in on some versions of the M7i router)
  • Encryption services PIC**
T Series routers require one of these PICs to support IPsec:
  • Multiservices PIC (any version*)
  • Adaptives Services II PIC
  • Encryption Services PIC**
MX240/MX480/MX960 routers require one of these PICs to support IPsec:
  • Multiservices DPC
  • Multiservices Modular Interfaces Card (MS-MIC)               (Starting with Junos OS version 13.2)
  • Multiservices Modular PIC Concentrator (MS-MPC)            (Starting with Junos OS version 13.2)

* Different versions of Multiservices PICs will support different maximum traffic throughputs and maximum tunnels allowed.
** The Encryption Services PIC is currently available for these models:  M7i, M10i, M40e, M320, T320, and T640.
