Description

One chassis in cluster had to be replaced, and transferred RE from bad chassisto new chassis.  Now, new chassis goes to disabled state.

Symptoms

  • One of the nodes in a cluster had to have the chassis replaced
  • Moved the IOC's and SPC's from the bad chassis to the new replaced chassis
  • Moved the Routing Engine (RE) from the bad chassis to the new replaced chassis
  • Node, with replaced chassis, goes to disabled state after boot up

Solution

On SRX-3400/3600, and SRX-5600/5800, if you replace the chassis, and move the RE from the old chassis to the new chassis, that node will go into disabled state. The reason for this is when the RE is replaced, the fab0 or fab1 interface will have a MAC address mismatch. You can easily detect this by issuing a "show interface fab0":

There are two workarounds for this problem:
  1. Re-configure both nodes to use a different fab0 and fab1 port
  2. Shut down both nodes, and boot them up at the same time.
