In Junos release 10.0 or earlier when the PIC-mode is changed from 10G to 1G, or vice versa, a warning message displays during the commit. The message states a reboot is required for the changes to take effect. This behavior has changed in Junos 10.1 and later releases.
In Junos release 10.0 or earlier when the PIC-mode is changed from 10G to 1G, or vice versa, a reboot is required (see sample below). This behavior has changed in Junos 10.1 and later releases.
root@Juniper3# set chassis fpc 0 pic 1 sfpplus pic-mode 1g {master:0}[edit] root@Juniper3# commit [edit chassis fpc 0 pic 1] 'sfpplus' warning: sfpplus pic-mode change will only be applied after reboot of member 0 configuration check succeeds commit complete
A reboot is not required for Junos 10.1 or later releases unless and until any port on an SFP+ uplink module has been configured as a Virtual Chassis port; at that point the change in operating mode will take effect the next time the switch is rebooted. The message is displayed regardless of SFP+ uplink module port configuration. For example:
{master:1}[edit] user@ex4200-24p-12# set chassis fpc 0 pic 1 sfpplus pic-mode 1g [edit] 'juniper-config' warning: If any port in this pic is used as vc-port, sfpplus pic-mode change will only be applied after reboot of the fpc; otherwise no reboot required.

warning: If any port in this pic is used as vc-port, sfpplus pic-mode change will only be applied after reboot of the fpc; otherwise no reboot required.
