Description

The LCD panel on the top front of the EX 8200 series switch chassis shows two lines of text with a maximum of 16 characters in each line. The LCD panel displays a variety of information about the switch and provides menu options to perform basic operations such as initial configuration and switch reboot.

There are two navigation buttons - Menu and Enter - to the right of the LCD panel.

The LCD operates in four mode:

  • Boot
  • Idle
  • Status
  • Maintenance
BOOT    The LCD operates in boot mode during switch reboot. The LCD has three menus:Idle, Status, and Maintenance. In each of these menus, line one of the LCD panel displays the hostname of the switch.  The boot mode displays the key milestones in the switch boot process. The boot mode does not have any user-selectable menu options.

IDLE
After the boot process is complete, the LCD automatically reverts to the Idle menu.  In the idle mode, line two of the Idle menu displays the LED modes and the total number of alarms in the system. The number of alarms is updated every two seconds.  To add a new user message to the Idle menu use the set chassis display message message-string CLI command. The message replaces the LED modes and total number of alarms information in line two of the Idle Menu for 300 seconds.  To display a user message permanently in line two of the Idle menu use the set chassis display permanent message message-string CLI command. You can delete the user message at any time using the clear chassis display message CLI command.

STATUS
The status mode allows you to get status information for the following items:
  1. Switch fabric in Switch Fabric and Routing Engine (SRE) modules
  2. Switch fabric in the Switch Fabric (SF) module
  3. Power supplies
  4. Fan tray and chassis temperature
  5. JUNOS software version installed

MAINTENANCE
The maintenance mode allows you to cycle through options for configuring and troubleshooting the switch:
  1. System halt
  2. Reboot system
  3. Load rescue configuration
  4. Revert to factory configuration
  5. EZSetup.


LCD menu options:

You can toggle between the LCD menus by pressing the Menu button and navigate through the menu options by pressing the Enter button.


IDLE MENU
Press Enter to cycle through the LED modes:

  1. ADM (enabled/disabled)
  2. SPD (speed)
  3. DPX (duplex)
Press Menu to go to the Status Menu.


STATUS MENU
The Status menu has the following options:

  1. Switch fabric status - Displays the status of the switch fabric in the SRE modules (SRE0 and SRE1) and the SF module (SF) as: OK, Fld (failed), ABS (absent). Press Menu or Enter to go to the next option.
  2. Power supply status (1) - Displays the status of the power supplies 0 and 1: OK, Fld, ABS. Press Menu or Enter to go to the next option.
  3. Power supply status (2) - Displays the status of power supplies 2, 3, 4, and 5: OK, Fld, ABS. Press Menu or Enter to go to the next option.
  4. Environment status - Displays the status of the fan tray and the chassis temperature.
  • Fan tray status: OK, Fld, ABS
  • Chassis temperature status: OK, High, Shutdown
Press Menu or Enter to go to the next option.
  • JUNOS version status - Displays the version of JUNOS software loaded on the EX 8200 series switch.
Press Menu or Enter to go to the next option.
  • EXIT STAT MENU - Press Enter to select this option to exit the Status menu or press Menu to return to the Switch fabric status option.

MAINTENANCE MENU
The Maintenance menu has the following options:
  • SYSTEM HALT - Choose one of the following:

    1. Press Enter to halt the primary SRE module. Press Enter again to confirm the halt.In a base configuration, the master SRE module will be gracefully halted but not powered off. Press Enter on your management device or power cycle the switch to bring the switch back up.In a redundant configuration, the backup SRE module takes over mastership when the primary SRE module is halted. To completely halt the switch, use the request system halt other-routing-engine CLI command to halt the backup SRE module before halting the primary SRE module. Press Enter on your management device or power cycle the switch to bring the switch back up.
    2. Press Menu to go to the next option in the Maintenance menu.


  • SYSTEM REBOOT - Choose one of the following:

    1. Press Enter to reboot the primary SRE module. Press Enter again to confirm the reboot.
    2. Press Menu to go to the next option in the Maintenance menu.


  • LOAD RESCUE - Choose one of the following:

    1. Press Enter to rollback the switch to the previous valid configuration. Press Enter again to confirm he rollback.
    2. Press Menu to go to the next option in the Maintenance menu.


  • FACTORY DEFAULT - Choose one of the following:

    1. Press Enter to restore the switch to the factory default configuration. Press Enter again to confirm. The LCD flashes a success or failure message and returns to the Idle menu.
    2. Press Menu to go to the next option in the Maintenance menu.


  • ENTER EZSETUP - Choose one of the following:

    1. Press Enter to launch EZSetup. Press Enter again to confirm EZSetup launch.  EZSetup configures DHCP and enables the J-Web user interface on the switch.  The LCD flashes a success or failure message for approximately 10 seconds and returns to the Idle menu.
    2. Press Menu to go to the next option in the Maintenance menu.

    NOTE: You can use the EZSetup option only if the switch is in the factory default configuration.

  • EXIT MAINT MENU - Choose the following:

    1. Press Enter to select this option to exit the Maintenance menu.


  • Press Menu to return to the SYSTEM HALT option.
