This KB explains a scenario where remote shell (SSH) access to an SRX device through Mist is unavailable, along with the identified cause, workaround, and planned fix.
- Unable to access the SRX device using Remote Shell/SSH from Mist.- Mist-initiated SSH sessions may remain connected for an extended period.- The following command may show a long-running mist SSH session:
show system users
Example:USER TTY FROM LOGIN@ IDLE WHATroot p0 10.x.x.x 12:00AM - climist p1 xxxxxx.amazonaws.com DATE Xdays
- System logs may report the following message:sshd: error: no more sessions
Cause:This behavior is typically observed on branch SRX devices experiencing high system load or elevated CPU utilization. Stale SSHD sessions can remain active on the device, preventing new SSH sessions from being established and resulting in:sshd: error: no more sessions
Workaround:Clear the stale SSHD process/session on the SRX device.Once the SSHD process is cleared, new remote shell connections from Mist can be established successfully.
Fix:A permanent fix is planned through a Mist self-driven action enhancement that will automatically detect and clear stale SSHD sessions on affected devices.
Target availability: November 2026 Mist update.
