Description

The SNMP Unknown Engine keeps ticking up even though SNMP is working fine.


On Junos and Junos Evolved platforms, SNMPv3 (Simple Network Management Protocol Version 3) statistics show incorrect values for the "Unknown engine ids" field. The issue happens when executing the CLI command "show snmp statistics", the "Unknown engine ID" counter is incremented incorrectly even though there is no change to engineID.


Symptoms

Unknown engine id errors are increasing but the tool is working fine:


user@device> show snmp statistics | match engine


Unknown engine ids: 10, Wrong digests: 0, Decryption errors: 0


Solution

Problem is resolved via software upgrade.
