Description

What is the meaning of the syslog message sge_sffp_i2c_set_read_addr ?

Symptoms

Syslog messages similar as shown below appear in log messages file:

user@router-A-re0> show log messages
   ...
Feb 25 00:07:39  router-A-re0 fpc0 sge_sffp_i2c_set_read_addr timeout waiting SFFP read addr config
Feb 25 00:07:39  router-A-re0 fpc0 SGE(0/0) link 3: error set SFFP I2C read addr 0x0175
Feb 25 00:07:39  router-A-re0 fpc0 SFP 4: in sfp_read_range, failed to read SFP DIAGNOSTICS address 117

Solution

These syslog messages are written to the system log files, if a small form-factor pluggable transceiver (SFP) does not respond to a request for diagnostic data.
The message is unnecessary because the failure to respond has no operational impact .

The issue is tracked in PR/97718.

If you want to supress these syslog messages to be written to the log files, you could use the syslog match criteria as explained in KB9382 [juniper.net].
