Description

This article explains how to replace a faulty hardware device (RMA) that is currently registered and managed within Security Director Cloud (SD-Cloud).

Solution

Starting SDC 26.2.1, the RMA feature enables you to replace faulty devices.

Step 1: Place the Existing Device into RMA State

  1. Log in to Security Director Cloud.
  2. Navigate to Devices.
  3. Select the device that is being replaced.
  4. From the device actions menu, select Put in RMA State.
  5. Confirm the operation.

Placing the device into RMA state prepares Security Director Cloud for the hardware replacement by retaining the device configuration and reserving it for the replacement unit.

Note: Once a device is placed into RMA state, it is expected to be replaced by another device of the same hardware model.

Step 2: Install the Replacement Device

  1. Rack and cable the replacement device.
  2. Power on the device.
  3. Ensure the device has Internet connectivity.
  4. Verify that the replacement device successfully contacts Security Director Cloud.

Step 3: Reactivate the Replacement Device

After the replacement device appears in Security Director Cloud:

  1. Navigate to Devices.
  2. Select the device that is in RMA state.
  3. Choose Reactivate Replacement Device.
  4. Enter the required information for the replacement device (such as the replacement device serial number, if prompted).
  5. Confirm the reactivation.

Security Director Cloud associates the replacement hardware with the existing managed device and restores the configuration to the new device.

Note: At present, the RMA replacement workflow supports only standalone devices. Support for replacing chassis cluster and MNHA (Multi-Node High Availability) deployments is not currently available and is planned for a future release 26.3.1.
