Description

On Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved platforms with SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) enabled, an SNMP walk may fail and returns a general error when LLDP (Link Layer Discovery Protocol) is configured on an interface whose index value is greater than 4096. The issue happens because the system is unable to process the large interface index value.

This issue might be seen if the following conditions are met:
* On Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved platforms
* LLDP configured on the interface have index larger than 4096 and SNMP is configured
* SNMP walk for LLDP is performed

Symptoms

When performing an LLDP MIB walk, the operation stops midway with a general error. This happens when the SNMP interface index is very large (greater than 4096). The SNMP walk fails at the MIB object lldpConfigManAddrPortsTxEnable because the system is unable to handle the large index value returned by LLDP during the SNMP walk.

Error Message:
Error in packet.
Reason: (genError) A general failure occurred
Failed object: iso.0.8802.1.1.2.1.1.6.1.4.66642956

To check the SNMP interface index, execute the CLI command:
user@device> show interface (check for the SNMP index of IFD)

Solution

Due to huge ifl snmp index, snmplib is not able to handle huge memory sent out as value by lldp and general error is thrown in snmp walk.
