How to shut down a Juniper Session Smart Router (SSR) managed via MIST or Conductor

To shut down a Juniper Session Smart Router (SSR), you can perform either a graceful shutdown or a forced shutdown, depending on the situation.

A graceful shutdown ensures the operating system and services are properly shut down before the power is turned off, minimizing the risk of data loss or file system corruption.

Graceful shutdown—You can do a graceful shutdown in two ways:

• Use the Linux poweroff command at the Console. The appliance begins gracefully shutting down the operating system and then powers itself off.
  • To run the above command, you need serial connection / console connection to the SSR appliance irrespective of whether the SSR is managed via MIST or Conductor.
• Press and hold the POWER button for 3 seconds, then release. The appliance begins gracefully shutting down the operating system and then powers itself off.
  • You need an engineer onsite to perform the above operation

Forced shutdown—Press and hold the POWER button for 7 seconds, then release. The appliance immediately powers itself off without shutting down the operating system.

Note :

Forced shutdown can result in data loss and corruption of the file system. Use the forced shutdown method as a last resort to recover appliance if the appliance operating system is not responding to the graceful shutdown method.
