Description

The article explains the supportability of mac-rewrite knob on Juniper Evo devices.

mac-rewrite knob will be used on Junos o tunnel the Layer-2 frames transparently across the provider network by rewriting to predefined mac address.

The mac-rewrite configuration enables Juniper devices to rewrite the multicast destination MAC address of Layer 2 control protocol packets. This is essential for tunneling protocols across a Q-in-Q (802.1ad) network without being processed by intermediate devices.

  • The original multicast MAC address is replaced with a predefined tunneling MAC address:
  • 01:00:0c:cd:cd:d0
  • This allows the packet to traverse the provider network transparently and be restored at the destination.

Symptoms

not passing the STP, CDP,macsec/mka etc frames.

Solution

On Junos Devices running with the Evo software

ACX Series Routers with Junos Evo supports the mac-rewrite config knob.

Whereas the PTX series routers with Junos Evo software doesn't support the mac-rewrite knob as of now.
