Logs show repeated entries similar to the following:
WayPointException: Failed to allocate WayPoint ports (possibly exhausted); intf=1.0; local=XXXX; remote=XXXX
Message is associated with DNS traffic:
src ip XXX, dest ip XXX, src port 64276, dest port 53, proto tcp
The error indicates that the SSR waypoint was unable to allocate new ports for session establishment due to a burst of requests.
In this case, it is driven by DNS traffic bursts
This does not mean:
The SSR continued to operate, but specific sessions were dropped due to port exhaustion.
One of the triggers for the waypoint error is due to abnormal DNS burst traffic . Review the DNS traffic load on the SSR and work with the customer/application team to determine the source of excessive DNS queries. Once any excessive DNS traffic is eliminated, error WayPointException: Failed to allocate WayPoint ports should disappear.
If the issue still persists, contact JTAC for more detailed investigation.
