This article explains the procedure to fix if the backup.sh script fails during upgrade.
You might observe the below during backup.sh script

Please enter directory which has enough space for Backup file. . . .
It does not go beyond this.
1. Using the KB29030 [juniper.net], you should be able to find which database is occupying disk space.
2. Post, where you can truncate the table, which is holding higher data
3. The alternative solution is to extend to the disk space of the partition using KB77214 [juniper.net]
