Queries about changing port-speed on PTX10001-36MR:
1.) The customer would like to understand if the changing the interface et-0/2/8 from the default speed of 100G to 4x10G requires a PIC restart and/or if this will affect the other active ports/PFE on the device.
2.) Will changing the port speed at the port level or PIC level have any impact on existing services?
As per the reference documentation, when the speed of a specific port in a given PIC is changed using the speed statement, then only the speed of that port is modified. All other ports in the PIC remain unaffected. Thus changing the port speed from default 100G to 4x10G will not require a PIC restart and it should not affect other active ports or services on the device. However, please ensure that the port speed distribution on the device is validated with the port checker tool link that has included below.
Also, as per the documentation, only port level speed configuration is supported. PIC level configuration is not supported on PTX10001-36MR.
A few other points to note are:
1.) If the port profile configuration is changed while the FPC is up and running, and the new configuration is invalid, an alarm is generated. The existing port profile configured continues to be used for that PIC.
2.) If an invalid port profile configuration is detected while booting a FPC, an alarm is generated. Also, the default port profile is selected for that PIC.
