Problem

This issue is not applicable to NFX NextGen Software. On NFX Series devices the use of Hard-coded Credentials in Juniper Networks Junos OS allows an attacker to take over any instance of an NFX deployment.

This issue is only exploitable through administrative interfaces.

This issue affects:

  • Juniper Networks Junos OS versions prior to 19.1R1 on NFX Series.

No other platforms besides NFX Series devices are affected.

Juniper SIRT is not aware of any malicious exploitation of this vulnerability.

This issue was found during internal product security testing or research.

This issue has been assigned  CVE-2021-0248 .

Solution

The following software releases have been updated to resolve this specific issue: 19.1R1, and all subsequent releases.

Workaround

There are no known workarounds for this issue.

To reduce the risk of exploitation of this issue, use access lists or firewall filters to limit access to the device's administrative interfaces to only trusted administrative networks, hosts and users.
