Problem

A persistent cross-site scripting vulnerability in the graphical user interface of ScreenOS may allow a remote authenticated user to inject web script or HTML and steal sensitive data and credentials from a web administration session, possibly tricking a follow-on administrative user to perform administrative actions on the device.

Affected releases are Juniper Networks ScreenOS 6.3.0 versions prior to 6.3.0r26.

Juniper SIRT is not aware of any malicious exploitation of this vulnerability.

This issue was discovered during an external security research.

This issue has been assigned  CVE-2018-0059 .
 

Solution

The following software releases have been updated to resolve this specific issue: ScreenOS 6.3.0r26 and all subsequent releases.

Review and clear any previously stored cross-site scripting entries.

This issue is being tracked as PR  1323345  which is visible on the Customer Support website.

Workaround

Use access lists or firewall filters to limit access to the device only from trusted hosts and administrators.

In addition to the recommendations listed above, it is good security practice to limit the exploitable attack surface of critical infrastructure networking equipment. Use access lists or firewall filters to limit access to the device only from trusted, administrative networks or hosts.

Disable the web administrative interface if it is not necessary.
