Problem
A late-breaking critical software issue was found in Junos OS 11.1R1 that affects EX Series switches only. Junos OS 11.1R1 running on an EX Series switch may cause the sfid daemon on the line card to crash repeatedly. The issue is caused by the improper parsing of NetBIOS packets. When this occurs, control traffic is affected resulting in decreased performance and/or introduction of problems with VCP functionality. The problem was introduced in Junos OS 11.1R1 and only affects the EX Series of switches running Junos OS 11.1R1.
No other version of Junos and no other hardware platform is affected by this software issue.
Solution
Junos OS 11.1S1, built on 2011-04-21 and released on 2011-04-26, contains the fix for this line card daemon crash. All subsequent releases of Junos OS (i.e. all releases built after 11.1S1) also contain the fix for this issue.
This issue is being tracked as PR 597870.

- "In which releases are vulnerabilities fixed?" describes which release vulnerabilities are fixed as per our End of Engineering and End of Life support policies.
How to obtain fixed software:
Security vulnerabilities in Junos are fixed in the next available Maintenance Release of each supported Junos version. In some cases, a Maintenance Release is not planned to be available in an appropriate time-frame. For these cases, Service Releases are made available in order to be more timely. Security Advisory and Security Notices will indicate which Maintenance and Service Releases contain fixes for the issues described. Although Juniper does not provide formal Release Note documentation for a Service Release, a list of "PRs fixed" can be provided on request.

Workaround
No known workaround exists for this issue. If EX Series switches cannot be upgraded to a fixed release, it is strongly recommended to temporarily downgrade to a release prior to Junos OS 11.1R1.
